The global financial crisis has seen world growth wither, but Queensland is fighting back with an arsenal of job creation tools.
Over the next three years the Queensland Green Army will provide 3000 jobs to help get the economy growing again.
The Queensland Green Army will work on projects of strategic importance to enhance our natural assets, strengthen our tourism industry and promote increased environmental awareness for all Queenslanders. Details of approved projects will be posted on this site as they are approved.
There will be 2,300 jobs where workers will have paid work placements of up to six months working on projects that conserve and restore the natural environment, green spaces and recreational areas.
Community organisations, local governments and State Departments can apply for funding to run Queensland Green Army projects which may include:
Workers wages will depend on their age, and skill levels. These jobs will generally be full-time with workers doing a mix of supervised work and training for up to six months. Workers will be employed under the Community Jobs Plan Employee Conditions Order.
An additional 700 Green Traineeship positions will also be offered.
Green Trainees will have 12 months paid work and training with organisations.
Eligible Green Traineeships will generally be targeted at Certificate II and III levels in a range of occupations including but not limited to:
Private sector employers will also be eligible for subsidies for Green Trainees in renewable energy specialities.
Green Traineeships are primarily for young persons aged 15-24 years without post-school qualifications who need a nationally accredited qualification to get their ‘first start’ in the workforce. Green Traineeships will provide regional coverage and target locations of high unemployment, including urban fringe communities, and ensure all equity groups have the opportunity to participate.
